There are many reasons of why the chicken stop laying eggs or of the reduction in the number of eggs. In fact, in most cases this depends on a complex reason.
* Insufficient day length: The chickens need 14 hours of daylight to continue the production of eggs. The decrease of the daylight to 12 hours for one day leads to reduction in the production, and if this constantly continues it leads to the halt of the egg production. Minimum of 14-hour daylight required to protect animals from this effect is maintained by artificial means. The lighting has to be done also at the morning hours in order not to create an impression on the chickens as if it is the sunset. This method is a way that will save the chickens from this difficult situation in the dark day hours.
* Malnutrition: Layer hens need an absolutely balanced ration in order to have the maximum egg production for a long time. Nutrition with an improper ration may cause hens to stop laying eggs. The most common problem is the inability to provide a fresh water source. This becomes more of a problem especially in the colder months, when the water is covered with ice. A system, which the animals can reach water continuously has to be provided. Lack of energy, protein and calcium also cause a decrease in egg production.
* Elderliness: There are two spawning periods of the laying hens. However, the rendement activities of some of the hens decreases after two or three years and this varies from animal to animal. A good egg layer will lay eggs about 50-0 weeks in each spawning cycle.
* Stress: The presence of any kind of stress such as change of place, treatment, climate change or fear can cause the reduction of the of egg production. Cold (Chickens should not be kept in moist places and in the places where there is too much air stream), holding or carrying, parasites and fear of animals are also among the causes of stress.
