What Is Negative Energy Balance?

Negative energy balance is when a cattle produces more than it gets.

This most often occurs on the head of the animals in the first 30 to 40 days following birth. Negative energy balance is the event that occurs between the first 3-6 weeks following birth, which we call early milking, which we call early lactation, where milk yield goes to peak but feed consumption cannot be accompanied by ration consumption at the same rate.

Negative energy balance intensity is acceptable to some extent. But if this intensity is too high, if the animal loses more than half body condition in the first 60 days, this has a negative effect on reproductive function, long-term peak milk yield and reproductive yield. Ketosis may occur in animals with high negative energy balance. As a result of this increase in this limit, severe health problems such as fatal fatty liver can occur.
